Children’s Rights in the Modern World (20 November 2024, Istanbul University Faculty of Law)

There is no doubt that today we live in a very different world from that of 1989, when the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child was adopted. On the one hand, children are becoming increasingly vulnerable to emergencies such as pandemics, wars, and natural disasters, as well as to the climate crisis; on the other hand, they are growing up amidst digital transformation that shapes every aspect of life, from social interaction to education.
All these developments in the modern world require us to approach children’s rights from new perspectives and to interpret them in light of the challenges and needs of our time.
With this aim, under the auspices of the Rona Serozan Foundation for Comparative Legal Research, a conference entitled “Children’s Rights in the Modern World” will be held on 20 November 2024 — World Children’s Day — at the Faculty of Law, Istanbul University.
